Richardson, Texas is a suburb just north of Dallas. There’s a group in Richardson called The Clown Gym / Circus Freaks that has weekly meet-ups where you can get together and practice circus skills, and a monthly playtime called SpinFest where everybody gets together and performs or works on stuff together.
There’s a disc jockey playing music, people set up booths and sell stuff, and families come to watch or try stuff out. Today was the first SpinFest of 2013, and it was a great day. Sunny and in the mid-70’s — perfect January weather!
Spinfest is at a shopping center in Richardson that has a park in the center of it, and there’s a little amphitheater with a stage at the bottom. It got crowded down there, so I took my rola-bola up to the top of the amphitheater and put it on the retaining wall, and juggled and balanced up there. It was so much fun!
I don’t get to go to the weekly sessions very often during the school year, because of homework, but during the summer I love to go and stay up late just practicing and learning new stuff. If you’re in Dallas, come and join us some time. It’s free, nobody judges anybody, and you can have fun whether you’re a beginner or an experienced performer.
SpinFest is a free, open event hosted by Creative Motion on the third Saturday of each month to explore circus skills with the public.
Come and play with us! You can learn to juggle, hula hoop, or spin poi, staves, or flags. Come share your skills or learn new ones. Teach your body and brain to do new things. It’s a great opportunity to get out, move, and create with friendly people.
Spinfest is held from 3PM to 7PM at Eastside Plaza in Richardson, Texas.
In case of bad weather, you can check Creative Motion’s Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CreativeMotion for the alternate location.
