I turn 17 next month. My amazing agents at LMTalent have helped me get jobs on hit TV series, Hollywood films, and small indie projects in roles ranging from “blink and you missme” scenes to major roles. I’ve had auditions for amazing things. I got some – didn’t get most of them. But until now, I’ve never had my name on a movie poster. And the poster puts my name above the title. It’s not a blockbuster. But it’s an important film about suicide and depression, and I can’t wait to see it. There’s a red-carpet premiere at the end of March. I wasn’t all that excited about it, but my family sure is. And they’re excited about the poster, too. I’m mostly just looking forward to seeing the whole film! Here’s a link to the trailer for it. It’s a serious film about drug abuse, mental health, and suicide, and while I don’t have a lot of screen time, I think my character’s actions and words are pivotal to the story. The director wanted to use natural light coming in from the big windows in the room, but there were some overhead spotlights as well. With six or seven people in the room, no AC, the light streaming in from the west-facing windows in the late afternoon, and the overhead lights, it was very hot in the room. Almost every small town -- and some pretty big ones -- have a courthouse square with shops arranged around a courthouse built in the grand style popular in the 1800's. This is the Denton County Courthouse, about 40 miles north of Dallas. Denton is home to two large universities -- Texas Woman's University (TWU) and the University of North Texas (UNT). It was the Friday before Mardi Gras, and the city was packed with tourists. But there's no place for small dogs to get fresh water, so we brought the little water tub that grandpa's dog Waco always used. This little guy was our first customer -- he arrived during set-up, made friends, got a drink, and ran off with his family. The weapons master showed the actors how to handle the weapons, how to shoot and point them realistically, and how to avoid reacting to the loud noise they make. They have gas canisters inside that make a gunshot sound, but they don't shoot anything except warm air. He'd demonstrate something, and a horde of zombies would practice it...it was fun to watch. I think I want to be a zombie next time I do a zombie movie. The last zombie movie I was in was filmed in the old Dallas County Jail (the one where Lee Harvey Oswald was shot), and there weren't even any chairs because the building is empty. So everyone had to sit around on the cold, dirty floor. Here, there are big, padded chairs, and comfortable sofas. Ashla, Taylor and I all take acting classes from Nancy Chartier -- she's the best. Vincent is a really cool director, and he gives good direction, so you always know what he wants. We had to do a bunch of takes on one scene yesterday because they are shooting with just one camera and they wanted a bunch of different angles for some special effects later. So they took a lot of "OTS" shots -- that means the camera is behind one actor, shooting over their shoulder at the others. And they moved the camera around while we did the scene over and over. Some of them look like AK-47s, and some of them are handguns. They shoot hot air, because there is a gas cannister inside that makes them sound like real gunshots. But the "bullets" and "trace" is all added in post-production, so they're save.
